History-2000-Present

The 2000’s

Mount St. Louis Moonstone enlarges the learning areas of Moonstone and Mount St. Louis in 2000.  Improvements and the widening of Big Lonely Slope allows for snowmaking to be added.

2001 begins phase 1 of a 3 year project, moving 400,000 cubic meters of dirt along the upper ridge of the Tiroler slope to replace the double and triple chairs with another six person chair.  Sizable improvements were made to the Mount St. Louis chalet.  The downstairs cafeteria, guest services and boutique were remodeled as well as adding state of the art washroom facilities.  The clock tower at the Mount St. Louis chalet was constructed and the clock to be installed in 2003.

The learning area of Moonstone was increased in 2002, allowing for the relocation of the Novice Cable.  Once again, snowmaking capacity was upgraded by 25 percent.  The 3rd floor of the Mount St. Louis Chalet was completely finished making it available for large groups, conferences and special occasions.

Mount St. Louis Moonstone experiences one of the best winters in Canadian history for the 2002/03 season.

During the summer of 2003, renovations made to the Moonstone chalet including improvements to the rental shop, washrooms and the boutique. The clock was installed and the decorative murals were painted on the clock tower at the Mount St. Louis chalet.

A new Crystal glide finish high tech tuning machine by Montana was purchased.  Entering Phase 2 of 3, Mount St. Louis Moonstone moved another 400,000 cubic meters of dirt to the top of the East Arm slope.  Two ticket offices were removed out of the main office to enlarge the office area.  A second magic carpet replaced the beginner cable at Mount St. Louis.  Another Zaugg super pipe groomer was purchased and two super pipes were added to the Mount St. Louis Moonstone terrain.

A 30-year engineering audit took place in 2004 on the Timberline Double and Stretcher Triple.  It took most of the summer to repair major damage done to our slopes from heavy rains in May. Construction of the super pipes is completed.  An automated snowmaking system was installed in the Super pipes.

During the summer of 2005, two more engineering reviews were completed on the Sundance and Venture lifts.  Hill building was continued at the top of the East Arm Slope moving approximately another 400 000 cubic meters.  An additional 2 bays were added to the Shop Maintenance building.  The cable tow at the Moonstone beginner’s area was replaced with the Mount St. Louis Moonstone's third magic carpet lift.  A major facelift was given to the Resort’s website as well as computerizing the rental shop.

During the summer of 2006:
We completed our Hill building Project's final phase by adding 30 feet of elevation to the top of stretcher and creating 2 more intermediate runs, the Peak West Arm and Upper Timberline. We moved 300,000 cubic meters of earth to accomplish this.  All this was done in preparation for the new 6-passenger chair lift, to be installed next summer.  Stretcher Triple Chair was raised to the new elevation. Tyroler and snow bowl slopes widened.

Lift Improvements:
Two more engineering reviews were completed on the Louis Express and the Outback Quad lifts.

Snowmaking Improvements:
Purchased 40 new snow guns to increase and expand our existing high tech snowmaking system.

Grooming Improvements:
A new Park Bully "Edge" model has been added to continue the tradition of terrain park excellence in construction and maintenance for terrain park features.

Rental Improvements:
Purchase of high performance ski equipment for our rental shop.

Program Improvements:
Two more lesson programs "Bump Master", Adult Ski - Full Day" have been added to our well established programs. Also we are offering the new "Program Pass" especially tailored for our program users.

The start of the 2006-2007 seasons gave Mount St Louis Moonstone one of the most challenging seasons on record.  Early snowfall in October gave way to very little in November, December, and January. When most thought winter would never arrive at Mount St Louis, Moonstone impressed them all.  A few cold nights allowed us to make snow that provided enough coverage to let us open December 8, 2006 and stay open for the season, other area Resorts had to close over Christmas.

The summer of 2007:
The Huter's dream continues, removal of the Timberline double and Stretcher triple chair lifts making way for a third six passenger chair lifts, "Summit Six Express".
Slope improvements where made by widening and re-grading of Stretcher. Increased terrain on the south side of Kinder Carpet gives Mount St Louis Moonstone 40 slopes. Mount St Louis Moonstone has the largest and the best beginner terrain in the area.  Snowmaking improvements also where made.

Summer 2008:
Lift Improvements:

The load and unloading areas at the Outback Quad lift were modified to accommodate the new chairs.  The top ramp of the Outback lift was raised 5 feet, this will improve the flow in the unload area.  The speakers for the Outback sound system were repaired.  New chairs were also installed on Easy Street.

Building Improvements:
A new 7000 square foot building for our Snow School/Kids Camp and Members locker room was built.

Purchases:
Mout St. Louis Moonstone continues to improve the quality of service that our guests have come to expect by purchasing the following:  1~Pisten Bully Groomer, 44~Snow guns, Rental inventory software program, Computerized cafeteria system and new web site.

Summer 2009:
It was a typical summer at Mount St. Louis, although on a smaller scale.  Taking care of the necessary maintenance, lift upgrades, a re-vamping of beginner terrain on the St. Louis side and addressing the need for increased parking at the St. Louis base Lodge, were the focused areas.  These are all examples of the continued growing commitment that the Huter family produce year in, year out.

Lifts
In addition to the yearly maintenance which is completed each summer, new chairs have been installed on the "Sundance" chair.  The chair is a highly utilized chair in the beginner area of Mount St Louis side.

Hill Development
Major changes were made to the carpet area at the St Louis side.  the original "Magic Carpet" has been relocated, now running North South.  As a result "Kids Camp" participants can slide directly to the "Magic Carpet", with increased terrain to start on.  an appropriate slope now connects the top of the "Magic Carpet" to the "Kinder Carpet".  This major change will make the flow of lift to lift easier and more manageable for skiers/riders.

Facility Development
Finishing touches were made by completing the landscaping of the new building erected last summer.  The new building houses the Snow Schoo, Members seasonal lockers, and the Kids Camp program.

Parking
The revamping of the beginner terrain was linked to the design of increasing parking at the St Louis side.  An area of parking, for an additional 200 vehicles was added to the South parking area of the Base Lodge.
