History-1970's

The Seventies

In the 1970’s, Josl decided to add height to the mountain when he saw business being drawn away by other resorts.

During the summer of 1971, Josl decided to clear away trails to make way for a double chair.

During the summer of 1972, a double chair was added to service the trails that were cleared away in 1971.

In 1973, Mount St. Louis was the first resort to provide and operate a daily bus service from Toronto.

Minor additions were made to keep the snowmaking system up to date in 1974.

During 1978, preparations were made to increase the Mount St. Louis peak. The base was constructed by moving approximately 400,000 cubic meters of dirt. This would be the beginning of Mount St. Louis mountain building. A second addition to the chalet was also added.

Completion of the Mount St. Louis peak took 600 000 cubic meters of dirt to provide 500 feet of vertical rise in 1979. This project was the largest in the region. Another addition to the Mount St. Louis chalet was added to the north wing.
